Warmest greetings and salutations! I'm Terri Ng, a homeschooling mom of three living in beautiful Colorado.
I've always wanted to paint. I just never thought I could.
I can't produce realistic looking art work at all. And I don't have the patience or determination to learn.
But I've always had the desire.
Imagine my excitement when I discovered fluid art.
I randomly stumbled across an acrylic pour painting video on youtube one day towards the end of 2019.
Hmmm ... abstract painting ... why had that never occurred to me before?
The flow of the colors entranced me, like mesmerizing dancers swirling and twirling around each other, sometimes exploding in bursts of energy.
I remember thinking I might actually be able to do that.
The first thing I learned? It's not as easy as it looks! My first attempt ended up looking like a puddle of mud. 🤣🤣🤣
Some of my paints were lumpy, and you can see bare canvas peeking out in places. I didn't know anything about how to create a pleasing color palette or appropriate paint consistency or composition ... or a million other things I didn't know I needed to know.
My second attempt turned out a bit better.
Not exactly fine art, but at least my colors didn't all mix together into a disappointing mud color like the first one, right?
At this point my fluid art obsession was in full swing! I was hooked!
I spent hours watching tutorial videos on youtube and getting more and more excited about all the different techniques and color combinations to explore.
Within a few short months I made my first sale and received my first commission.
What?! People actually thought my art was good?!
I was honestly surprised. I mean, I like my paintings, and I like creating them, but it's gratifying to know that other people like them enough to pay money for them and display them in their homes! Which was good because I was quickly running out of wall space.
I love that every painting is unique.
I love putting different color palettes together.
I
love that the very nature of this art form is a lesson in letting go. I
tend to be a bit of a perfectionist, but acrylic pour painting requires
me to practice going with the flow more. Some days the paints just do
whatever they want to do no matter what plan I start out with!
Another early lesson I learned: record everything! Especially when you're first starting out.
If I created a painting I wanted to try again, I needed a way to remember all the important details like what colors I used, the opacity of the paints, the consistency of the paints, the brand of paints I used.
There's no way I can remember all those details without writing everything down somewhere, like a baker adjusting her recipe until she gets it juuust right.
Et voila! AbstractPeacock.com was born, my painting diary, my place to
document each step along this fun and amazing journey.
I thank you for joining me in my exploration of abstract fluid art and hope your visit here adds some beauty to your day.
